time flies

I feel like almost every weekend of this month has been filled with an event of some sort. Of course, I have also been filling up my time with more things to do. Lets see…

This last week of work has gotten me all caught up on books. I have finished The Monster of Florence, and now starting Driving with Dead People. Thanks Dean, for recommending this book.

A few weekends ago one of my best friends had put on a huge photoshoot at the downstairs bar of Katies in Smithtown. I was a model, bartender, and backstage photographer. Everyone looked AMAZING! My friend Vera was the main photographer who did an killer awesome job! I will post pictures as soon as I get some edited. Below is one of the final party group photo Vera taken towards the end of the shoot. I am wondering if anyone caught Charlie the ghost in any of their pictures at the bar.

Two weekends ago marked my grandparents 60th anniversary. 60 YEARS!!! I cannot believe it! I love my grandparents and think they are one of the most amazing couples I know. My uncle had scanned a bunch of old photographs from my grandparents lives together. I had taken a bunch of them and made a really nice collage in sepia tone. Then made a custom frame for it with their names in Gold. I took pictures but my memory card crapped out on me. So when I see them again I will have to take some more. Other than that, my art lately has been staying in my sketchbook or camera. I have been slacking on my tarot card series, and may need to put that on the back burner until the fall. FRESH, the art group I am a part of, is in the midst of planning their third annual art show at Painters in Bellport this July. More information to come on this soon, promise. Or you can just click on their name which I have linked to their Facebook page.

Last Saturday, Jimmy and I decided to grab a bottle of wine, drive out east, and picnic on the beach. Well, that was our original intention. While driving towards Riverhead our mini adventure started us at a Gingerbread store in Baiting Hollow. My GPS was telling me I was in Tennessee, no idea why or how, but I ended up getting us a little lost from our original destination. We tasted some samples of Gingerbread and decided to recourse ourselves to the Hummingbird Sanctuary. After hiking a trail straight uphill, we realized the place was closed. While driving back on the main road, we passed by a wine tasting party….and… of course we stopped! It was actually my first time going to a winery where I was over the age of 21. Naturally, we started tasting the many variety of wines that were available…while listening to the band and enjoying the perfect weather.

And now I will leave you with this cheese factor photo below: (don’t worry, we never got the hot dog basket)

LOST in Hawaii

Before I begin on this journey, I would like to share with you a small book that was put together by me and the rest of the SVA Art Education team in 2009. I never got a copy in the mail, but found that it was also available online. My illustration is featured on page for. Take a look at it here.

Now, back to our show.

It has been a few weeks now that I have been to Hawaii. I decided to wait until a snow day to finally post my experience. As I said in an earlier post, the boyfriend and I took a 6 day trip to Waikiki Beach to watch the LOST premiere on the beach, along with 12,000 other fans. The trip came in a nice little package. We were greeted right off the plane with a lei that smelled amazing, and a VIP driver. We got to meet other fans, podcast hosts, and writers. We were set up with a sweet hotel with a balcony that overlooked the ocean. It was like waking up every morning looking out into Heaven.

The week included a wonderful dinner serving traditional Hawaiian cuisine, including a roast pig. We were fascinated by the Hawaiian dancers and their not-so-much of a barely there outfit.

The premiere was on a Saturday…I think? People were camping out overnight from what we could see from our hotel. By the time we got there at 10am, it was crowded. The premiere wasn’t showing until sundown, but you know how these things go. Our group had been awesome enough to save an area with towels. I almost felt like I was in a cult.

The whole cast was there, it was amazing. the guy who plays Richard Alpert was by far the nicest guy ever. All the up close and personal pictures we got with the actors were great. There’s just something so authentic about watching a movie, while laying out on the beach in the warm breeze. The day before we had gotten a VIP tour around the entire island to see all the areas LOST was filmed. My favorite was the barracks, which is actually a summer camp for kids.

Oh, I forgot to mention that because Hawaii is so close to Japan, about 80% of their goods and advertisements are in Japanese. And I loved every second of it. There were even games at the arcade like the one below with instructions we couldn’t understand.

I have to also mention that I ate the most amazing tasting sushi I have ever had in my life. Actually, come to think of it, ALL of the food we ate in Hawaii was amazing! On our last day there, we took a cab to THE COUNTER BURGER, where the best burgers are made to order any way you like them! Jin from LOST actually owns this restaurant, so we HAD to go. The menu consisted of a massive list of ingredients to add to your burger ranging from sprouts and avocado, to potato chips and fried egg.

I know I am skipping around and shortening a bunch, but there is just soo much to write about, that I would be here all day. I’s also a really impatient person, and type so loud that my boyfriend thinks I am angry at the keyboard.

On our last day, we took a 2 mile hike up a dead volcano called DIAMOND HEAD. It was over 80 degrees, sunny, and a long ass haul.

When we finally got to the top, it was beautiful. The view was amazing, and we were so high up. There was a ledge over the railing that Jimmy wanted to climb over. It was terrifying, so I did.

diamond-head-view

While we sat there to enjoy the view, and catch our breaths…something both shocking and amazing happened.

He asked, “Will you marry me?” The first and only thing I saw was the ring, and I was so in shock that I didn’t even here him ask! He had to repeat it again so my brain could come back to earth. So, like I should , and did…. I said YES!

And I am going to leave you with that.

castle of the v-day white

I am going to skip over Hawaii and bring you right to Valentines weekend. I spent my newly engaged self with my fiance of course. We started the day with a brunch at the The Mirabelle Tavern at Three Village Inn. The arrangement of foods was enormous, ranging from custom omelets to homemade lobster ravioli…not to mention the chocolate fountain and tasty delectables.

The brunch was followed by a nap, yes,    a verryy long nap! It was quite relaxing!

Now….onto the dinner!!!

Oh yes, we did it. We went to White Castle for Valentine’s Day! It was amazing! They had the whole place decorated with balloons, a table cloth, and a nice touch with the plug in boom box. A server dressed head to toe in red took our order from a printout menu, listing each item separately.

It was a very enjoyable meal, as you can see:

(Stay tuned as we will be featured on the White Castle website)

Our Valentines continued into NYC Monday night to see Martin McDonagh’s A Behanding in Spokane, with Christopher Walken, Anthony Mackie, Sam Rockwell, and Zoe Kazan.

It was hilarious and I loved every minute of it! The boy got us front row tickets…we were so close I could have touched Mr. Walken himself. We got to catch some up close time with him after the show, along with all the other crazed fans. (Please note: he is still in makeup and probably doesn’t usually look this shitty)
