Things have finally been settling down a bit over at my life. The apartment is on its way to looking fabulous, and the boy and I are holding our first Thanksgiving dinner at our place! The theme started as a shabby chic look, but its now starting to look a little more like my old room…a colorful melting lollipop. We decorated for the holidays to make it look more festive, and are looking into buying a white x-mas tree! I love our place, seriously I couldn’t ask for better.

I have been experimenting with cooking different dinners, and the other night I decided to make penne alla vodka with shrimp from scratch. I had all the ingredients, and everything was coming out perfect. However, I made ONE little mistake, which ended up being the biggest mistake of the recipe. Instead of 1/4 tablespoon of red pepper flakes (which are REALLY spicy), I poured in a whopping 1/4 cups of it!!! It was so spicy me and the boy couldn’t even handle it! I was so hungry, and it tasted so good that I forced myself to eat a bowl of it, while sipping milk in between each bite.

The derby season is over, which means lots more time for knee healing. I am selling prints once again on Etsy, the link is below to check out. I am in the process of making some roller derby and roller skating wallets to sell as well. I finally got a new sewing machine, and by ‘new’ I mean another 1950’s Singer. The one I have was giving me some problems, but I refuse to get rid of it. Also, the Long Island Roller Rebels have a blog. (http://longislandrollerrebels.blogspot.com) If you scroll down, you can see some of our Halloween fundraiser pictures (Hint: look for the Queen of Hearts and the Mad Hatter). My boyfriend found his silk-screener while organizing the studio room. I am hoping to use it for some wallets and possibly some tee-shirts as well. I have a tendency to create a million art ideas, with little or no time to actually work on them. And I don’t think I can blame that on the ADD or OCD.If you are reading this, and are under 12 years old, you may be interested in some new art classes I will be offering over at The Drawing Studio in Smithtown. The flyer will be out this week, classes start in January.

On Saturday, October 24th, the Long Island Roller Rebels held their championship bout of the season. I was supposed to play on the Rolling Thundercats, but about a week before, I fell on my knee pretty hard. Trust me, I WAS NOT happy at all that I was going to have to watch the game and not participate. I decided to shoot some photos of the game, and was pretty happy with a majority of them. The lighting in the rink was terrible, and all I had was my Speedlight to help. Luckily, I was close enough where I could get some decent shots. Below are some of my favorites. I will be uploading the rest onto the Long Island Roller Rebels photobucket, so when I finish that I will give you the link to the rest.

Woke up this morning to a house alarm. Five hours later, the alarm is still going off. I feel I have been neglecting my blog for one good reason: busy-ness. Since the summer, I have made a comeback to roller derby. It was well missed. There are so many new girls on the league, I almost feel old. If any of you are thinking about seeing the movie Whip It, don’t expect to come to a Long Island Roller Rebels game looking for the WWF. When I first joined the team in 2006, it was a lot like a wrestling meets Nascar game. Now, all grown up, we play the way it’s supposed to be.

I started substitute teaching, and I must say, I love it. Even though I am not always in the art classroom, subbing gives me the opportunity to be a multi-subject teacher. Just last week, I gave two lessons in Social Studies, and read to the English class. It’s a fun challenge to be working in different subjects, and getting to know the students from other classrooms. For two days, I subbed for an art teacher. It felt like home. Hopefully in a few weeks I will be teaching Saturday enrichment classes.
On an even better note, I am moving!!! The boy and I found a HUGE apartment a little further east of here. It’s great because I will finally have an extra bedroom to use as a studio, instead of the 2×2 foot space I have been working in. Packing, on the other hand, has not been fun. I never realized how much crap I actually owned. Please don’t confuse me with a hoarder. I have a ton of stuff, but at least it’s clean and organized. I just cannot part with my collection of Burger King and McDonalds Happy Meal toys from the 80’s, or the many Alice in Wonderland troll knick-knacks that scatter around my room. I can give you a story for every piece in this room, from a trinket to a fortune cookie, and it will be well worth hearing.
Once I pack and unpack my scanner and computer, I will be posting some overdue photos and drawings.

The summer isn’t over yet, but I have done so much, that I wouldn’t mind if it were. A few weeks ago, the boy and I took a drip down to Burke, Virginia to visit the cousins I never see, but wish I did. We stayed at my great aunt’s house, which by far is the most amazing house I have ever been in. She collects everything from old toys that she once owned as a child, to cookie jars. Her yard is a haven for hummingbirds and chipmunks. When eating breakfast in the kitchen, you can see the birds around the feeder surrounding the massive windows. One of my cousins owns a bar in Manassas called The Philadelphia Tavern. We decided to spend our first night there. The food was tasty, and was made tastier with the never ending flow of free drinks.
The next day consisted of Washington DC, with its mall of Smithsonian Museums, sculpture garden, and pretty buildings. My favorite was seeing Julia Child’s kitchen, and the evolution of birth control in the Museum of American History. On the ride home, we stopped at an outlet mall, where I ended up buying a winter coat in the middle of August.
On our last day, the boy and I drove to Old Town Alexandria, where there is an artist community called The Torpedo Factory ,where there are three floors of open studios and galleries to walk through and meet artists. I saw some really amazing work that I wish I could afford.
This past weekend, the boy, my brother, and his girl all spent the day at Six Flags! We started and ended the day riding the El Toro, the fastest rollercoaster there! My heart dropped at the almost vertical drop. My second favorite was the Bizarro, which had a narration while coasting through fireball blasts and steam. After the last ride on the El Toro, the park ended the night with a huge shabang of fireworks. Below is the best picture we had all night:

Since I had most of the summer off, I have been getting back on track with Roller Derby. Oh skates, how I’ve missed you!! I must say I love skating and love playing, and hopefully I will be back to play the next bout September 19th! If you are in the area, I HIGHLY suggest going!!

So my buddy just came back from Cali and got me this gorgeous print by Mike Sosnowski. This guy was a storyboard artist for a lot of famous movies. Click on his name to check him out! I can’t wait to hang it on my wall!

He also found me the roller derby movie ”Kansas City Bomber” with Raquel Welch. I have been wanting to see that movie forever! Yey!

So these past 6 days I have been getting an unusual dizzy feeling that the doctors cannot explain. It has been stopping me from doing some art which sucks, which is why I haven’t been on here in a few. I went to Bellmore High School today as a guest artist and spent the whole day chatting it up with the 9-12 graders. It was a ton of fun! I think I may like teaching high schoolers than when I was teaching elementary grades art. I didn’t get dizzy all day which was amazing…and could be thanks to the Claritin-D woo! Next week I am getting a neurologist to check me out and another doctor to check my balance. That should be fun.
Anywhoooo if you are on the island then come to Mr. Beery’s this Sunday for a pancake breakfast with the Long Island Roller Rebels! And go listen to BBQ PARTY on myspace!

Also come watch the game April 5th! I won’t be playing but I’ll be there partying it up!

OK so I have been working on a few new project for the next art show on February 29th called THE BLACK HEART BALL.
A while ago I did a few photoshoots of some friends for a personal project of mine. One ended up being a Valentine’s Day gift for her boyfriend, which is in the portfolio section of my website. The others I had ideas for, but other things came up and ended up being put on the back burner.
So I am FINALLY going to finish these and use them for the next show! I am WAY excited and the first one of Krista is coming out pretty neat.
I will post progress soon.
ALSO! If your in the LONG ISLAND area there are TRYOUTS for the Long Island Roller Rebels all female roller derby league tonight at 8pm and Thursday at 9! If your interested, come down to United Skates in Seaford and che-che-check us out! If you happen to be a boy, we need refs as well!
I was also reading up on ol’miss Amy Winehouse who I find fascinating and ridiculous. What do you think of her new cd? HaHa here is a picture of me from Halloween as…guess who? It was also posted on Brooklyn Vegan along with other WINOS.
