GO Thundercats!!
Posted in photography, roller derby | No Comments
On Saturday, October 24th, the Long Island Roller Rebels held their championship bout of the season. I was supposed to play on the Rolling Thundercats, but about a week before, I fell on my knee pretty hard. Trust me, I WAS NOT happy at all that I was going to have to watch the game and not participate. I decided to shoot some photos of the game, and was pretty happy with a majority of them. The lighting in the rink was terrible, and all I had was my Speedlight to help. Luckily, I was close enough where I could get some decent shots. Below are some of my favorites. I will be uploading the rest onto the Long Island Roller Rebels photobucket, so when I finish that I will give you the link to the rest.

a little story

The other day, I was outside and saw a duck and her ducklings walking across the street.

Some of them were so small, they couldn’t keep up with their mum.

Later on, the boy and I took a drive out east, and turned left on an unmarked dirt road. We parked, then walked until we hit a loooong staircase.

We decided to walk down to see where it led.

Turns out, we hit the beach! It was so peaceful and quiet. So we stayed awhile.

We walked back up the stairs, and followed a hose along the shore. Until we hit a small cottage in the woods!

It was a hummingbird sanctuary, without the hummingbirds. (out of season) We walked around, and listened to nature. We could see from miles away.

And hear the bees! They were so large and friendly!

The place was so beautiful, I had to draw a picture.

THE END.

On Monday night, the class and I will be in the presence of Maxine Greene in her apartment on the upper east side. Maxine is one of the most well known philosophers on education and the arts in the world. You can click on her name above to learn more.
Oh, Maxine, how I went through this year struggling to understand your writings. As amazing as she is, I have a really hard time reading her, mostly because her English skills are far beyond what I have ever heard of. Nonetheless, when I do begin to understand, I realize how incredible her philosophies are.
In the next few days I will think of what I will say, while drowning my stomach in wine & cheese.
On another subject, I have 3 pieces which are almost done for a new show. I have a bit more time now, which is great and awful at the same time. Below is a smidgen of a fraction of a thumbnail:

gone away on a holiday

I spent the weekend relaxing like no tomorrow by taking a sweet road trip with my boy up to Syracuse to visit some good friends of mine. We couldn’t have picked a more gorgeous time to drive! We stopped a bunch of times on the ride up just to take pictures. I’ve never seen leaves this vibrant before.
The weekend consisted of pumpkin picking, Dinosaur BBQ, cute towns, and amazing scenes. Not to mention a hefty load of pumpkin beer and white russians. I even broke down and bought some expired game cube games.
I just got a new Nikon lens that I am completely in love with!! Although I didn’t bring it up with me, I still got some gorgeous shots with my other lens. Below are some of my favorite shots. If you want to see the others, just go to myspace.com/reneemicheledesign. And add me!

On my day off I finally made it to the Bronx Zoo. I had tons of fun and fell in love with a mini monkey while spending time in the Monkey House. Below are some of my favorite photos. Here is also a photo of my dog Angel and some ants in my front yard. Enjoy!

a new piece…with children. go figure. I started student teaching today. And my first impression was how clean the kids wanted to be. As soon as a tad bit of glue gets on their fingers…they immediately want to go wash their hands. This is not right. Not one bit. Blink.
Other than that the rest of the day went well, I even got a little “initiation” welcome by one of the little boys Jared. That’s going to have to be a story to tell in person. The day ended at a homeless shelter in the lower east side teaching homeless children some art projects. One extreme to the other.
Can’t wait for tomorrow.
